They came out with an amazingly short album that caught quite a bit of attention, as they had an interesting sound. Lyrical based songs vaguely infused with techno and african drumming? Odd. Well, not really, kinda cool.

Well, January 2010 is when they’re long awaited followup to the half hour long self titled album before, a new half hour long album called CONTRA! That brings it to a full hour! Hooray!

Look for it January 11/12.

Hey guys.

I say that loosely, as I’m sure nobody really follows this yet. To be fair, there’s not really much to follow!

I’m not really sure how updating this will go. I’m determined not to leave it be, as I have with all the other blogs I started and gave up on right away.

Anyway, I have a legitimate excuse for not updating. I’ve been home sick. Sure, sure, you can say “well Chris!! When you’re home sick, you’ve got time to spare! Update!”. Well, I would, except that I’ve been home sick with mononucleosis. Also known as mono. The kissing disease. Spread pretty much only by saliva. Not really sure where I got it, but yeah, I did. Fatigue is it’s number one symptom. You know what I did for 3 weeks straight? I slept. I starved, as food tasted revolting. I watched documentaries on the history and discovery channels. ugggg. Effing TV.

Consider that an update.

So I’m with my dad and twin sister, who were picking me up...

So I’m with my dad and twin sister, who were picking me up from my 6 week intensive summer studies programat the Rhode Island School of Design. The trip was planned awkwardly, so we had a lot of free time and decided to trek up to Newport. Really random. I showed them around, we did the cliff walk, et cetera.

Craig Ferguson is my favorite of the Late Night TV Hosts. Jay never did it for me, neither did Conan. I’ve been dabbling in Letterman since I was 11, staying up with my dad to watch it. But Craig is his own thing entirely. He’s a hilarious Ex-Alchaholic Scott who comes on right after Letterman, who enjoys using puppetry, sound effects, visuals, skits, along with both dry and clear humor. It’s hard to explain, you should just watch him. He’s funny as hell, and totally under-appreciated - Anyway so this is one of his recent show introductions that shows part of his intelligent and clever side. Short and sweet social commentary.

New Modest Mouse Song, King Rat. Completed post mortem.

It depicts a Humpback Whale sailing on the ocean and harpooning swimming humans, which get gorily skinned, shipped, processed, and fed to pet seals. It has something to do with the wholesome vendetta he had against the prominent illegal whaling scene on the Australian shore. At the same time though, it just adds more evidence to the fact that Heath was going through a dark, dark phase in his final year. RIP Heath, The Joker was the best acting I’ve ever seen.

Audio

Twitter.

Twitter.

Me.

I’ll tell you a little about myself. I’ll do it in a way that I haven’t really done before. I’m an American, who spent the first 6 years of his life in Germany. Now I’m back in the states. There is one thing that shaped my personality more than any other, the celebrated work of a certain Bill Waterson, the creator of Calvin & Hobbes. Calvin & Hobbes is a comic strip from the 90’s. It’s about a 6 year old kid with a surly and philosophical attitude towards everything, and his imaginary/nonimaginary friend, a tiger/stuffed tiger named Hobbes. Hopefully you know this already. It’s only one of the most popular comic strips of our time. I was given a treasury of the comic at age 7 or 8, The Indispensable Calvin and Hobbes. Upon getting it, I turned to page 113. I don’t remember what i thought about it, but it turned me onto reading the rest of the book. 3 years from then, I had every single treasury of the strip, and had practically memorized the entire contents of the books, being able to recite most of them upon command.

Now, for those of you who have read C & H, you know that that is no simple feat. Bill Waterson gives his 6 year old character a dramatically sophisticated and dynamic vocabulary, which he uses to ponder every issue from avante garde snowman sculptural art, to water balloons, to philosophy, to hiccups. The language that Calvin uses changed me. So did the subjects the strips covered. And the art. Since getting into C & H, the things that most interest me in the world are art, philosophy, language, culture, media, and the humanities. Not a coincidence in my opinion.

I lated branched off into different comics, mostly Zits, Foxtrot, Pearls Before Swine, Dilbert, and Get Fuzzy. I spent 6 years trying to start my own comic. Never worked out. Now I’m into all forms of art, even the performing ones. I’m a visual artist and an intellectual at heart. In 1 day I’m off to spend 6 weeks at the Rhode Island School of Design for their Pre-College Summer Program. It’s gonna be sweeeet!

Hey there, you!

“You. Yeah, you. You listening? Okay, I’ll let you in on a little secret. This ‘blog’, this thingamabob here? It’s nothing special. It’s a web-savvy teenager who thinks he’s got things to say, about himself, about life, about his interests, etc. Mind you, he can be quite an interesting figure. He notices a hell of a lot of random stuff. He even analyzes it sometimes. He takes interest in as much as he can hold, while taking 3 or 4 things at a time and completely obsessing the shit out of them! They said it couldn’t be done… But again, as I said…. This is nothing special. It’s a mere bagatelle.”
